Visit Púcon, Chile – You will love it!
Visiting Púcon is a must when you travel to Chile. It is a region full of beautiful nature. Green forested mountains, beautiful lakes and nice waterfalls are composing a perfect setting for all kind of natural adventures.
Go Canopying, Canyoning, Rafting, horseback riding, biking and more.
The little town looks like in a surfing movie. Little wooded houses, beautiful Restaurants, Bars and cafés are creating a tremendous holiday atmosphere. Those who like it more quiet should consider to go there in the beginning or the end of the low season to avoid the crowd that will be there during summer time.
The highlight in that area is without questions the Villarica Volcano. It overlooks the little town with an altitude of more then 2.800m above sea level. Its majestic snowcapped and sulfur steaming crater looks like an unrealistic backdrop in the middle of the green surrounding.
When you are in good conditions, you should hire a guide and take the 6 hours hike up to the top. The way takes you over snowfields, glaciers and bizarre looking lava rock formations. It is exhausting but once you have reached the top, the awesome view will compensate you from the strain. When the weather is good, you can have a clear view 350km down south to the Orsorno Volcano. The way down is much fun. When there is enough snow, you sit on your bottom and slight down taking your ice pick to brake.
Going in winter means to have a wonderful day skiing on the volcano. It is not a huge ski area but of course, an experience as not everybody will have the chance to go skiing on a volcano in July and August.
For a bad weather day, you should take the two hours ride by rental car from Púcon to the south to get to “Termas Geométricas”. With a four-wheel-drive, it is an easy ride. When you have a normal car, you should bring some driving experiences with which it will also be no problem. Once you arrive in Coñaripe you turn left on to an unpaved track which brings you after 17km directly to the Termas. Warm water pools built from natural stones, which have been situated in a canyon surrounded by the green vegetation of the rain forest. Not only is it a great place to relax after a day of hiking but also a visual highlight hidden in the beautiful nature. Taste the homemade cakes and enjoy a café in the cafeteria, which are offered for a good value of money.
When you do not know where to stay try the “Landhaus San Sebastian”. A German family owns the little lodge that offers 11 rooms and 1 apartment. In a wonderful green setting, 15 minutes by car from Púcon you can enjoy quiet vacations in a family friendly atmosphere. The food is excellent, mostly homemade with ingredients from their own garden. You can book the hotel, other travel packages or tailor made tours through Chile via the tour operator Protours Chile.
Of course, this is just one of the many great spots Chile has to offer.
The country is 4500km long and only 250km wide, which means that there are five different climatic regions. It starts with the dry zone of the desert in the north, to the moderate climate in the region of Santiago. Further, down south you have the Mediterranean climate of the Lake District until you reach the Polar climate of Patagonia and Antarctica.
Different climate means different landscape so take a minimum of 3 weeks to enjoy your visit to Chile.
