With ample historic sights, picturesque walks and delicious cuisine, it is easy to see why Glasgow and Edinburgh are two of the UK’s most popular city break destinations. Most Edinburgh and Glasgow hotels are within walking distance from all the main attractions, which will keep everyone happy. We’ve picked out some of our favourites for you to peruse, to decide which city’s for you.

With its impressive views over the city, Arhur’s Seat in Edinburgh provides a truly rewarding physical workout. It is one of the most picturesque views in the whole region, along with Edinburgh Castle and the Scott Monument. Those who are fans of culture will also enjoy the Scottish National Gallery, between Princes Street and the Royal Mile.

It’s hardly surprising that Glasgow was awarded the title of European Capital of Culture in 1990, as the home of the Gallery of Modern Art, the Riverside Museum of Transport and Travel, and many other cultural attractions, earning it a place as one of Britain’s most popular city destinations. Stroll along the river, explore the city’s galleries, or attend a heated football exchange for a genuinely authentic Glaswegian experience.

Edinburgh is also famed for its cultural leanings, as the home of the largest arts festival across the world, the Edinburgh Fringe. No trip to the Edinburgh Fringe, with its hundreds of theatre and comedy shows, would be complete without sampling some of the local Scottish whisky. True connoisseurs can even augment their knowledge on the subject with a tasting course during their visit to the city.Make sure you book your Edinburgh hotels far in advance though, as they do fill up quickly during this time of year.

Although known perhaps more for its traditional Scottish foods such as haggis, you’ll find plenty of delicious eateries in both Edinburgh and Glasgow some tourists even make the long drive from their Aberdeen hotels just to sample the local cuisine.
